Coaching & Mentoring for People in Leadership Positions |
|
Are you or one of your staff feeling stressed? Overwhelmed? Pressured? Burnt out? Lost your direction or vision? It's important to spend time working on, as well as in your business. Regular mentoring and/or life coaching can have huge benefits: - Reduced stress and work overload
- Increased job satisfaction and security
- Improved family and social relationships
- Greater productivity and effectiveness
- Better health
Leaders need time to stand back, to work ON as well as IN the business. Time to reflect, to plan, to evaluate, to develop the vision. If we spend 10% of our time working on the business (which we may feel shy about because we are not producing), we can actually achieve a greater productivity because we keep our direction. Just as a top athlete or sportsperson benefits from the attention of an experienced coach, so can top business executives. Regular coaching sessions can be just what you need to give you an 'edge' in a competitive environment. Business coaching is related to general life coaching, but with a specific focus on situations and dynamics experienced in the workplace. More information about Coaching & Mentoring by John Groom |

30% to 40% of all illness-related absence from work is due to mental and emotional disturbance. Stress causes up to 80% of workplace accidents. What condition are your key staff in? In addition to the legal responsibilities NZ organisations have to minimise and deal with workplace stress, there is the consideration that stressed executives are simply bad for business. Stressed workers make mistakes, perform at less than their best, and negatively impact the people around them. Executives who work with John Groom learn: - to review professional skills and competencies
- improved problem solving
- conflict resolution
- goal setting
- time management
- communication and interpersonal relationship skills

Emotional intelligence refers to how effectively one perceives, understands and manages their own and others’ feelings, emotions, and moods. Emotional Intelligence is different to what is commonly known as IQ and personality, and has a powerful impact on people in the workplace.
Emotions and feelings play a critical role in shaping our perceptions of the people and situations we encounter on a daily basis. They influence the ways in which we understand behaviours of others, and how we make decisions. Research highlights Emotional Intelligence as being one of the strongest predictors of success and transformational leadership.
However, employees are often promoted into senior level positions for their technical skills, rather than their ability to motivate, inspire, and relate to others. A lack of such skills amongst organisational leaders can create a culture of dissatisfaction, poor morale, and disengagement, which in turn has obvious negative impacts on business practices and outcomes.
In this difficult economy, organisations require all employees to be engaged and demonstrating high levels of performance at all times. It is also becoming increasingly vital for employees to prove their individual worth. Measuring and coaching in Emotional Intelligence improves the likelihood of achieving these organisational and individual goals.
